Centralia 13s Lose to Mythical Bend, Ore. Squad

August 2, 2011 in Uncategorized

Okay, maybe not a mythical team. But Centralia’s 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars’ pool-play loss to Bend, Ore., on Monday night did come to a squad with a pretty impressive record.
For example, Bend — the Northern Oregon state champs — once scored 28 runs without recording an out at a district tournament game. The team has 10-runned nearly everyone its faced in the postseason, including a 48-1 rout of Pendleton American in the state semifinals. Bend outscored its opponents 124-31 over six games at state.
And, the Bend 13-year-olds are coached by Alan ‘The Gas’ Embree, who (according to Wikipedia) lettered in volleyball at Brush Prairie High School and now lives in The Dalles. No word on whether or not he’s wearing his 2004 World Series ring at the tournament this week.

Centralia takes on Hazel Dell Metro, to whom it lost the Southern Washington state championship game, at 7 p.m. tonight. HDM, rumor has it, has recruited local former pro Randy Myers to help manage the pitching staff.

Just kidding. Best of luck, Centralia.
